Teddy dogs!!

In our family not all "teddies" are bears. There are also 3 lovable "teddy" dogs - 2 vintage and 1 modern. Today, the 1st May and sunny, we went out into the garden.

In the kitchen on a cold winter's day!

Even though the bears are covered in fur, on really cold winter days they enjoy being in a warm kitchen. They just love hot porridge - made with oats and milk (1 cup oats : 2 cups mini- or skimmed milk) and served with honey and blueberries!

A travelling teddy is back from a holiday down south

Teddies love to travel and the little Skagen teddy who lives here has been on holiday in a South Tyrolean village. On the way home our furry friend stayed in a Bavarian village. Beautiful mountain views and charming old houses, says the little ted, when telling friends about his trip.

Special teddy exhibition in Skagen's Culture Centre

During the month of May a special exhibition is open - free - to the public in Kappelborg, Skagen's Culture Centre. You can see some of the teddies that have been shown in the Junior section at ARoS art museum.  The Teddy Museum sets up a small exhibition every December there for children to enjoy during the winter. The Teddy Museum also sets up a collection box for donations to their children's charity. Any small change in your pocket welcome!

Bears in chairs ...

Some bears just sit down on the job. An old salt telling stories of the sea, a crafty bear making shoes from straw, two chess players, and some retro music fans - note the enlarged detail from this photo underneath - tiny bears on chairs!

 

OL in Russia

Today winter OL starts in Sochi, Russia. In 1980 the summer olympics were held in Moscow, USSR and Skagens bamsemuseum has examples of the cute Russian olympic mascot. One of the new mascots this OL is a tubby, polar bear. 

Handsome black bears!

Teddies come in many colours - here are some fine old bears: a Russian bear in the case, a Steiff Panda and one from China. The curly one is German. On the right two rare Danish bears - Venøbamser. By the lighthouse a Steiff replica from 1907.

Travelling teddies ...

Our small resident Skagen bear asked if there was space in the corner of my suitcase - I said yes - nice with a bit of company. So, tomorrow we are off to Oz for the rest of November! Says he will post a comment when he gets back.

Daisy Bear is not going so far - just to Aarhus. There she will join some teddies from Skagens Teddy Bear Museum for the Christmas exhibition in the Junior section at ARoS. Daisy is made almost entirely from recyclables: newspaper (for the papier maché) and pictures cut out of old catalogues.

An old cat on wheels and "cousins" from Australia!

The old cat is a Steiff from 1919. The teddy bear museum has good collection of really interesting, old bears and other stuffed toys.

 Koalas are not really bears - they are marsupials and like kangaroos their babies grow in pouches on mum's tummy. Originally toy koalas were made from kangaroo skins - but now mostly cuddly, soft, washable modern materials.
